On Monday July 20th, at the El Retiro Library, the RHA hosted the Torrance Police Department to speak about neighborhood safety. 

Community Lead Officer Matthew Lassak and Sergeant Daniel Vazquez updated the overflow crowd on the TPD’s new Real Time Response Center, including their fleet of drones. The TPD has increased patrols in high activity areas; they hope to also increase voluntary registration of home and business video cameras in order to identify license plates at crime scenes.

District Five’s newly inducted Councilmember Betty Lieu also spoke, affirming her commitment to ensure the Torrance Police have the resources necessary to keep residents safe.

Personal and home safety advice focused on the following:

• keeping doors and windows locked
• setting up interior timers on lamps
• requesting a Vacation Watch when leaving town
• noticing unfamiliar vehicles and people in your area
• forming a Neighborhood Watch group
