Focus Sharpens on Views

Torrance City Council will hold a public hearing on the TREE and VIEW ORDINANCE on Tuesday, June 28!!!Residents are invited to speak at this meeting. Please be there to show your support. If you like, please make a statement of your support.

Please do show up for this last, most important meeting on the hearing!!
The council will make their FINAL DECISION on the proposed ordinance at this hearing. The most impactful thing you can do to help this process is to be there and urge them to adopt an ordinance and guidelines similar to the City of Rolling Hills Estates View Equity Ordinance. The council is in favor of this action, but city staff is still opposed to an ordinance, so it is not a done deal.

Please be there at the City Council hearing to direct them to adopt the ordindance as soon as possible. The trees keep growing, and many residents have been waiting for this for decades. Now is the time to speak out!!!

GOOD NEWS ABOUT TREES AND VIEWS

At last week’s May 17 Torrance City Council meeting, the Council approved allocating funds for the tree and view ordinance for the coming fiscal year!
Since the Council has already approved funding for the program,  it looks very likely that they will approve the draft ordinance when it comes back to Council for a public hearing.  The public hearing could be very soon–possibly this summer.
We will let you know when this important meeting takes place, so you can attend the meeting and show support for this much-needed ordinance for the City of Torrance.
Thank you for the many people who have been helping this effort.  It’s coming……!

Legado update

For those of you following the ongoing effort to develop the old Bristol Farms site, be aware that the Redondo Beach Planning Commission last week voted to approve the 146-unit apartment complex proposed by the Legado Company developer.  The final hurdle will be tested on June 14 when the RB City Council votes on whether to approve this latest plan.
More information can be gleaned from this Daily Breeze article.

Development site boundaries

Many Riviera residents and nearby Redondo Beach residents continue to oppose the  development, in its current proposed configuration, based on traffic and density concerns.  For all the official details, read up on the latest information posted on the RB city website.

ExxonMobil refinery rebooting

The ExxonMobil Torrance Refinery has been given the “okay” to restart, likely this Saturday/Sunday between 7PM and 7AM.   There is a chance for relatively high levels of particulate pollution as the refinery restarts, so please keep up to date if you work or travel near the refinery.

The Daily Breeze reports Tuesday morning (May 10) that the refinery restart occurred overnight Monday.  More info at the AQMD website.

 New Los Arboles playground equipment

From Torrance Community Services manager Jason Minter:
The playground equipment project continues to move along. City Council has approved the contract and a purchase order has been issued. Our target start date is the end of the month, with a timeline of approximately 3 weeks. Staff met with the contractor yesterday to identify the closure areas and construction fence placement. As there is a school gate near the playground, the contractor will do their best to keep the walkways clear, however the temporary fencing will impede the walkways nearest the play area.

The good news is we hope to have the project completed by the end of the school year! Please keep an eye out as I will be sending an update once we have a firm start date.

(By the way, the rocketship stays!)
