After serving as Presidents of the RHA for 12 years (Judy) and 8 years (Pam), we are delighted to finally hand over our responsibilities to new leadership.
When we feared the RHA might disappear due to lack of volunteer support, various talented and competent Riviera residents answered our plea for assistance. Starting July 1st, they will fill the leadership positions and we will become Immediate Past Presidents.
During our tenures, with your support, we were able to accomplish the following:
- Protect residents’ ability to testify before the Planning Commission and City Council about violations of the Hillside Overlay Ordinance.
- Decrease airport noise over the Riviera by helping residents organize successful opposition to “touch and go” flight training and overuse of the southern runway. Thanks to our efforts, Torrance now charges landing fees and enforces the city charter’s limits on flight schools.
- Monitor the City Council and Planning Commission meetings on a regular basis.
- Obtain funding from our State Assembly representative for fencing, landscaping, and bridge repair across from South High School and push for construction by the City of Torrance.
- Modernize RHA communications and meetings by utilizing a website, social media, email, newsletter and Zoom.
We are confident the new Board will continue to represent the interests of the RHA members and we wish them the very best.
Pam Popovich and Judy Brunetti, RHA Immediate Past Co-Presidents
