We have two upcoming events to add to your calendars. We hope to see you there!

It will be held on Sat., September 28 from 11 – 1 at the station on 502 Calle de Arboles. Enjoy a taco truck and free swag! 2. The Riviera Homeowners Association invites you to attend our in-person meeting at the Riviera United Methodist Church (375 Palos Verdes Blvd. Redondo Beach) at 7 PM on October 15th. Former Councilmember Mike Griffiths will be speaking on current state legislation that may override local zoning and the Hillside Overlay Ordinance (HOO). Cal Water’s Operations Manager Robert Thompson will also be there with information on the upgrades to the Hollywood Riviera Station, including the water tank replacement.

Regulating Leaf Blowers in Torrance

California just passed Assembly Bill No. 1346, which bans the sale of gas-powered lawnmowers and leaf blowers after 2024. While homeowners and businesses are still permitted to use existing gas-powered equipment, they can no longer purchase non-electric lawn equipment.

The City of Torrance opted not to ban leaf blowers in 2021, but the Torrance Environmental Quality Commission will be looking at various options for regulating leaf blowers.  They’d like to know what you think, and you can take their short survey here

President’s Message

After serving as Presidents of the RHA for 12 years (Judy) and 8 years (Pam), we are delighted to finally hand over our responsibilities to new leadership.

When we feared the RHA might disappear due to lack of volunteer support, various talented and competent Riviera residents answered our plea for assistance. Starting July 1st, they will fill the leadership positions and we will become Immediate Past Presidents.

During our tenures, with your support, we were able to accomplish the following:

  • Protect residents’ ability to testify before the Planning Commission and City Council about violations of the Hillside Overlay Ordinance.
  • Decrease airport noise over the Riviera by helping residents organize successful opposition to “touch and go” flight training and overuse of the southern runway. Thanks to our efforts, Torrance now charges landing fees and enforces the city charter’s limits on flight schools.
  • Monitor the City Council and Planning Commission meetings on a regular basis.
  • Obtain funding from our State Assembly representative for fencing, landscaping, and bridge repair across from South High School and push for construction by the City of Torrance.
  • Modernize RHA communications and meetings by utilizing a website, social media, email, newsletter and Zoom.

We are confident the new Board will continue to represent the interests of the RHA members and we wish them the very best.

Pam Popovich and Judy Brunetti, RHA Immediate Past Co-Presidents

DISTRICT 5 COMMUNITY MEETING MAY 9th CANCELLED!

The informational meeting was canceled due to a scheduling conflict at the Katy Geissert Library Meeting room and “it was determined that the video reel and mailer would have greater reach.” Residents can expect a mailer soon. The City of Torrance promises that “additional Vista Montana restoration details will be available by week’s end” on the February Floods section of the Trending In Torrance website.

DISTRICT 5 COMMUNITY MEETING MAY 9th

Aurelio Mattucci, Torrance City Councilmember, will hold a meeting on Thursday, May 9th, from 6:00 to 7:30 at the Katie Geissert Main Library.

The focus will be on the street closure of Vista Montana and hard dates for reconstruction and reopening.
